Look after yourself for your baby’s sake…what to do when they’re tearing at your musallah?

It’s easy for mothers to forget about looking after themselves during the first year of their baby’s life. You’re so busy entertaining and caring for your little one that you can overlook your own well-being. You rush around, forget to cook for yourself and end up snacking, or worse, skipping meals altogether. But remember that your baby will really benefit from having a healthy, happy mum. So keep your own diet in mind when you’re preparing baby’s meals, and schedule in a regular daily -or at least weekly – slot for exercise and relaxation. Sport is a great way to get rid of tension, stress and, believe it or not, exhaustion too. You’ll feel refreshed and energised after a good workout, and calmer too. Join an evening exercise class or go swimming after baby’s bedtime. Look for mother-and-baby yoga or swimming classes that allow you to get active together, or daytime sports facilities that offer childcare. Taking routine breaks from motherly duties to care for your own body and mind is one of the best gifts you can give yourself right now.

The above from the Pampers team is so true…especially in the first few months. A mother’s whole life changes, not only does she have less time for things she enjoys, even taking extra time on the Musalah can be a challenge.

How do you keep your little one busy when you pray Salah? Does he/she join in? Do you make Zikr aloud now that you have ‘company’?
