How to prepare your home for a crawling baby
SIT UP!
Your baby has gradually been gaining more physical control and independence, and, at eight months, he is starting to sit. He’s able to twist round, lean forward and shift from side-to-side. He’s also using his hands more to explore his world – pointing, poking and generally finding marvellous uses for his fingers. At this stage, you need to protect your child from the inquisitiveness that comes with these hard-won motor skills. Babies find everything, so be prepared for the worst. Don’t wait for an emergency before you hide away poisonous cleaning fluids. Get down on your hands and knees and search through your house for potential problems. For example, make sure that all cleaning solutions are stored out of your child’s reach, that all electric sockets are covered and that you install door locks for all the low cupboards in your house, including in the bathroom.
