<p>Many women don&#8217;t get enough iron, and iron-deficient mums are not only tired, but can also be grumpy and unable to enjoy their children as much as they&#8217;d like to.</p>
<p>Ask your GP to test your iron levels, especially if you feel run down.</p>
<p>Dark-green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, fortified cereals, lean red meat and egg yolks are good sources of iron.</p>
<p>If you do need to take supplements, watch them like a hawk.</p>
<p>The tablets look just like sweets, but they can make your baby seriously ill or can even be fatal.</p>
<p>If you ever suspect that your child has opened your bottle of iron tablets, take him and the bottle to the doctor&#8217;s surgery or casualty straight away.</p>
<p>Ask your pharmacist to put them in a childproof bottle if they don&#8217;t come like that.</p>
